Mana had a tough time, trying to piece together what Kisara was saying. "There's...a monster following you?" she asked, wondering where the monster was. "If there was one following you, why didn't it show up?"

"N-no...the monster...is inside me..." Her voice became a hushed whisper, as if afraid of being overheard.

"It's...inside you?" Mana asked, unable to believe a monster could live inside a human. "Are you sure? You're not traumatized, are you? Maybe we should go see the Pharaoh's healers."

"I-I...I don't know." And she began to cry.

When Kisara began to cry, Mana started to wipe her tears from her face. "Don't cry, it'll be okay." she replied, embracing Kisara. "Trust me, please."

The pale girl did not respond. She appeared to nod very slightly, and threw herself out of the embrace.

Seeing Kisara leave, Mana immediately ran out after her. "Wait, please!" she cried, trying to catch up with her. She still had questions to ask, but more than anything, she wanted to give Kisara a home.

"There was no reason to run out of my house like that!" she exclaimed, not giving up on trying to catch her. "I want to give you a home more than anything else. I brought you into my home in hopes you would stay."

Kisara's weak condition was not on her side. She sharply turned and ran into an alleyway before collapsing. She sat there, breathing heavily, and tears began to fall once more.

Turning into the alleyway after Kisara, Mana once again knelt down at her side, wiping the tears from her face. "Please, come back with me." Mana begged. "In your condition, I doubt you'll ever find someone who will care for you as much as I will."

The pale girl continued to cry, but after a few minutes she quieted. "O-okay..."

Mana helped Kisara up. Before going back to her house, Mana kept wiping away Kisara's tears. "I'll do what I can to keep you safe and protected, okay?"

"O-okay....thank you....for everything...." And they went back to the apprentice's dwelling.

"You're welcome." Mana replied, now back in her own house. "Now that I think about it, what's your name? I should've asked that as my first question."

"Kisara, huh?" Mana asked, embracing her. "I think that name really suits you. Now please, make yourself at home. My home is now your home as well."

"T-thank you..." She seemed unsure of what to do, looking around nervously. She had never had a home before.

She tried to wiggle out of the embrace, but could not. Frustrated, she asked to be let go.

Hearing Kisara asking, Mana immediately let Kisara go, not wanting her to be mad at her. "Listen, the streets here are dangerous at night." Mana said, sitting by Kisara's side. "As an apprentice, I may not be able to drive all our attackers off if we're caught in their grip, so please, don"t run out at night ever again."

Kisara's eyes widened and she nodded. She had had bad experiences with ruffians...

With every passing second, Mana realized that she was soon losing focus on her surroundings. Her eyesight was fading away to the point where she couldn't see anything.
