The main city of Egypt was surprisingly quiet in the dark of midnight. Although it was much cooler than during the day, people began to head inside for sleep a few hours before night's apex. The sandstone buildings stood like silent sentinels watching the deserted streets. The palace of the Pharaoh was clearly visible in the distance, along with the creature tablet halls, and one could even make out the distant pyramid of Khufu to the west.
Through the moonlit streets, a pale girl stumbled. Her white hair gleamed in the light of the moon, and her blue eyes pierced the darkness like will-o-the-wisps. She was exhausted. It was a long walk from her previous temporary home in Memphis. Now that she had found another city, all she wanted to do was rest.
Her worn dress did little to shield her soft skin from the grating sand as she sunk to the ground in the middle of a street.

With her daily training completed, Mana left the palace and headed home, taking the main streets. Mana could easily scare people in the night, but she wasn't that type of person. As she walked to her home, she saw something bright on the ground. Thinking it was an expensive jewel someone had dropped, Mana approached it. Getting a better view at what was on the ground, Mana realized it was a girl and she rushed to her side, kneeling down. "Excuse me, but these streets aren't the best place to sleep." Mana said, unaware if the girl could hear her. "If you like, I could take you to my home. It's safe to sleep there."

The young sorceress didn't seem to immediately flee from Kisara's hideous skin. Maybe she could even be a friend...
Stop, she told herself. You can never have any friends.
"Water..." She managed to mumble. "Please...water..."

Hearing that she wanted water, Mana knew it would be too long to go get water and come back. "I can get you water from my home, but you'll need to come with me." Mana replied, trying to help the white-haired girl up. "Can you walk?"

By the gods of Egypt...could she? She attempted to steady herself on her feet, but almost immediately collapsed into Mana's arms again. Her throat stung and her eyes stung and her feet stung and everything hurt. "P-please...help me..."

Mana set the white-haired girl down. Okay, what was the water spell again? Mana thought. She desperately wished she could remember, but for some reason, she couldn't remember the spell to save her life.

Kisara nudged Mana with her nose, and titled her head. "Home...water..." She could barely speak.

Hearing Kisara, Mana immediately picked her up and began walking home with her. "My home isn't far, just hang in there!" Mana exclaimed, trying to do whatever she could to help Kisara.

The girl's raspy breath seemed to grow hotter. Glancing at her face, Mana could've sworn her eyes were glowing...but the sight was gone a moment later. Besides, something new happened to distract her from a trick of the light. Kisara fainted. ---- She awoke in a house. It was mostly typical of the city denizens' dwellings, as they couldn't afford much in the way of decoration. However, there was one thing she recognized. It was the girl who had helped her the previous night.
Licking her lips and finding she had saliva again, she softly uttered a thanks to Mana, before averting her gaze nervously.

Mana sat by Kisara, consistently giving her water until she didn't want any more. She was going to make sure Kisara was conscious and was able to know what was going on around her before letting her go on her own when the time came.

The pale girl looked up, straight into Mana's eyes. "Thank you," she said softly, before glancing away again.

Mana sat down at Kisara's side, placing her hands on Kisara's shoulders. "Is there anything else I can get you right now?" Mana asked, wanting to let her know that she wanted to take care of her while she was a guest.

"Well, what do you want to do then?" Mana asked, holding her close. "We're here, so we might as well do something, right? Now, what could we do that would be fun for two people?"

The albino paused, and dared to look at Mana's face again. "Who are you?"

"My name is Mana and I'm a sorceress in training." she answered, wondering if Kisara was scared or shy. If one of those was the case, then Mana would try to build up her courage.

Offering no information about herself, Kisara just nodded. "Where are we?"

"We're at my house. It's not much to look at, but it's all mine." Mana answered, letting the other girl know that she owned everything in the house. "I'm getting a jewel that I'll add, but other than that, this is what I own."

The girl tried to stand, but didn't have the strength, and fell back down. "I...I shouldn't stay..."

Mana shook her head and helped her up. "Nonsense." she replied, keeping a firm hold on her. "If the same thing happens, others might not stop to help you, so you can stay as long as you want."

The pale girl was silent, glanced around nervously, but then slowly nodded. "O-okay..." She shouldn't stay...bad things happened to others around her...

Mana looked down for a second and then back to Kisara. "Who are you and why do you not want to stay here?" she asked, believing there had to be some reason.

She cringed. "I'm...Kisara...and I just don't want anyone to get hurt..."

"Do bad things happen around you? Is that why you said you can't stay?" she asked, trying to get any information she could. That wasn't her intention, but if she kept asking questions, she would eventually get more information than she wanted.

Kisara nodded. "I'm...there's a...monster..." She seemed to have a hard time putting what she wanted to say into words.
